Hello, I'm Rick Vasquez, the author of 'A Mountain Within'. My great-grandfather, Leo Vasquez, passed down a saying to our family, Show them your heart and they will see your soul. I stand here in boldness hoping each of you will be gentle with my soul.

      I wrote the first draft of 'A Mountain Within' in 1976, making my last entry in 2006.  I love the story of the Lore family.  While writing about their challenges and misfortunes, I didn't fully realize the extent to which my own dysfunctions affected me, spending several years trying to conquer my personal mountains.

      This novel and snippets are based on a true American story of a powerful journey through the mist of a fractured Southern family, struggling to overcome abandonment,  addictions, and painful secrets.

      It is a story that takes us on a journey within our hometowns, just down the street and around the corner.
